4 years ago today, I made my first post on Pop Cultural Studies! It’s been a wild ride since then, with almost 250 posts!
Every year, I try to take a moment to thank a few people who have been crucial in supporting this blog. Obviously, I want to thank the regular readers of this blog who like the posts on a regular basis. Your engagement on every post really means the world to me.
I’ve started having a variety of people reaching out to me asking me to review stuff, which has been super neat! So I wanted to thank Jim Curtis, who gave me the opportunity to review his book Decoding Dylan. I’d also like to thank my friends at Forever Collectibles, who asked me to review some of their products this past December.
Another big thank you is due to friend of the blog, Gabe Cheng, who shared some wonderful guest posts about Futurama; Gabe has a great web comic called For Molly, and a podcast called Another Lousy Millenium, in which he and his co-hosts break down every episode of Futurama.
But that being said, if there’s anyone who deserves thanks for being an absolutely crucial part of this blog, it’s Pop Cultural Studies assistant contributor and my lifelong friend Hugh Geraghty. Hugh has written some great content for this blog, including an ode to one of his favorite YouTube channels, his list of movies that should have been nominated for Best Picture in 2019, and his magnum opus – a comprehensive ranking of every Survivor contestant to have made it past midseason. Not to mention, he and I did a collaborative post I think we both really enjoyed – Casting a Modern Day Clue Remake | Drew and Hugh
Maybe most of all I want to thank everyone who read our Journey to the Throne series – it definitely took way too long and I’m not sure I was enjoying it by the end, so it’ll probably be a little while before I review every episode of a TV show again. (Though with the fourth season of Fargo possibly coming out later this year, or a fourth season of Young Justice in 2020, I might just see about diving into one of those. We’ll see.)
I made it my goal to have two posts a week for every week this year. So far, I’ve been keeping to that, and currently I’m a little bit ahead, with certain weeks having three posts, and the week before Game of Thrones Season 8 had a post everyday. So, since I’m ahead, I’m going to be doing one post per week for a little while, just to give myself a little break, just because I found Journey to the Throne to be pretty exhausting. Some weeks I’ll only post once, some weeks there will be a guest post. But after that, we’ll be back to the regular two posts per week. (I suppose this might not make a huge difference to most of you, but I just wanted to make a general housekeeping announcement.)
Thanks everybody! Here’s to another four years!
