My Favorite Alternative Songs of the 2010s

With the decade coming to an end, I wanted to look back at some of my favorite alternative and alt-rock songs of these past 10 years. Narrowing them down was hard, but here are 20 of my favorite songs from between 2010 and 2019:

The Black Keys – “Little Black Submarines

Foo Fighters – “Walk”

Hozier – “From Eden”

But seriously, this could be any Hozier song – I hope that in the decades to come, he solidifies himself as one of the best musicians of this era.

Florence + The Machine – “What Kind of Man”

This just barely beat her song from Game of Thrones.

Arctic Monkeys – “Do I Wanna Know”

Leon Bridges – “Bad Bad News”

Bishop Briggs – “Dreams”

Also: “River” by Bishop Briggs and “River” by Leon Bridges

The Killers – “Run for Cover”

Jack White – “Lazaretto”

Alabama Shakes – “Sound & Color”

Young the Giant – “Silvertongue”

This one just makes me so happy.

Alice Merton – “Funny Business”

Cage the Elephant “Take It Or Leave It”

I was also very close to including their song “Shake Me Down”

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats – “S.O.B.”

Paramore – “Ain’t it Fun”

CHVRCHES ft. Hayley Williams – “Bury It”

Vampire Weekend – “Diane Young”

The Regrettes – “I Dare You”

Alt-J – “Breezeblocks”

The Neighborhood – “Sweater Weather”

People forget these guys continued to put out music after “Sweater Weather,” which managed to be a mainstream hit. For another great Neighborhood song, I’d recommend “Scary Love.”

St Vincent – “Los Ageless”

Elle King – “Ex’s and Oh’s”

Love Fame Tragedy – “My Cheating Heart”

Of Monsters and Men – “Alligator”

Saint Motel – “My Type”

Billie Eilish – “My Strange Addiction”

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Sacrilege”

Sofi Tukker – “Baby I’m a Queen”

The Naked and Famous – “Young Blood”

Metric and Brie Larson – “Black Sheep” from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

This list probably isn’t definitive. I bet that in a week and a half I’ll remember another song and regret not putting it on this list. Plus 2019 isn’t over yet, so a new song coming out that entirely rocks my world isn’t outside of the realm of possibility. Either way – putting this list together reminds me that this decade has really had some stellar music.
